Remedial Massage

When muscles become knotted and tense or damaged, Remedial Massage provides a healing treatment that can be gentle or strong, deep or shallow. Therapists view the body holistically - treating not only the disorder and its symptoms but also the roots/cause of the problem.

During Remedial Massage a therapist uses essential oils (house blended certified organic essential oil + carrier oil) directly applied to the skin to allow for deep penetration of the muscles associated with the disorder, and may also employ passive joint stretching moves. This is said to stimulate the blood supply, allowing toxins in the muscles to be removed. It also helps tone and relax muscles to improve joint mobility, calming the peripheral nervous system and easing pain and discomfort. It is recommended for persons suffering from arthritis, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, whiplash, back pain, scoliosis amongst other ailments.

Remedial massage is beneficial for:

  • Neck and shoulder acute / chronic pains
  • Acute / chronic back pain
  • Headache / Migraine
  • Muscle injury
  • Stress
  • Improve circulation and range of movement
  • Ease and tone muscles
  • Provide the deep relaxation that allow our minds and bodies to recharge and rejuvenate

Reflexology or Zone Therapy is a non-invasive alternative therapy employing the use of massage or pressure to reflexes in the feet, hands and ears to improve general health. It is believed that these reflexes correspond to every part, gland and organ in the body and therefore by applying pressure to these reflexes - circulation and natural function of the related areas of the body is improved.

Reflexology also acts as a detox, ridding the body of toxins and boosting the lymphatic function. It is a whole body treatment - not just a foot massage. It promotes balancing of physical, mental, emotional and energetic levels of the body.

Reflexology is beneficial for:

  • Stress reduction
  • Improving circulation
  • Increasing energy
  • Improving immune system
  • Enhancing the body's healing process
  • Stimulating nerve function
  • Detoxifying the body
  • Improving sleep quality
  • Affecting all body systems

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage is a type of massage therapy that is helpful for chronic tension, limited mobility, recovery from injuries, strain, postural problems, fibromyalgia, muscle tension or spasm. It also alleviates pain in specific areas such as the neck, lower back and shoulders because it focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. Some of the same strokes are used as classic massage therapy, but the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and pain.

People often notice improved range of motion immediately after a Deep Tissue Massage session. When there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually bands of painful tissue (adhesions) in muscles, tendons and ligaments. These adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement and inflammation. What a deep tissue massage does is physically break down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement.

During the Deep Tissue Massage the therapist often uses direct deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles with their fingertips, knuckles, hands, elbows and forearms. This may cause some discomfort and pain, so you may be asked to relax and breathe deeply. There is also usually some stiffness or pain afterwards but it does subside and some therapists may recommend a cold compress and that you drink plenty of fluids afterwards so as to flush metabolic waste from the massaged tissue.

Deep Tissue Massage is beneficial for:

  • Muscle injuries
  • Headache / Migraine
  • Chronic tension
